The Amazing Journeys of Sinbad the Sailor (Part 1)

Introducing Sinbad and the Magic Pot

— Hey, Tac! — Hey, Tic! — Can I ask you something? Why is the ocean always so boring? — Boring? What are you talking about? This is the place for explorers, adventurers, and the fearless.

— Oh! Hooray! Water adventures! The waves are a joy to behold. And these travelers are so fearless that they feed me stale food. — Come on, come on! Don't be so pessimistic, Tic! Every now and then, a man comes along who shows courage and love for the unknown, just like Sinbad. — Sinbad? — Yes, Sinbad the sailor. Don't you know him?

— Ah! Wait. Let's go to the magic pot. His journeys are worth seeing. — Well, that's just water! Are you going to do a little abracadabra? — Ah! Abracadabra is old-fashioned now. Watch and learn. Water, clear and blue water, show us all that is lost within you!

The Beginning of the Story

— Oh, magic water, show us the story of Sinbad the sailor!

Welcome to Baghdad, the city of thrills and home to our sailor, Sinbad. Sinbad was a young merchant who, after spending all his father's fortune, decided to venture out to sea to rebuild his luck.

— Sinbad! I hear you're heading to another market for business. — Yes, uncle. I was foolish to spend all my father's money. I have nothing left. I must continue my business. I will leave tomorrow with other people from Baghdad. — Very good, my son! Have a good trip! May you have a peaceful journey!

The First Sea Voyage

And Sinbad embarked on his first journey. Sinbad loved his first time aboard. The breeze, the wind, the clean blue waters, all called to him. It was a new experience, full of promise.

But slowly, he grew tired of it. He desperately wanted to reach land, but there was no sign of any island nearby. Days passed, and the horizon seemed endless.

— When suddenly... Captain, I see a small island! — Yes, captain, look! Look! — Ha, well, this was boring me. Finally a piece of land.

The Mysterious Island

This island is beautiful. Sinbad disembarked from the ship, eager to explore the new land. His crew began to prepare a meal on the shore.

— Hey, Sinbad! Where are you going? Dinner is ready! — I'll be back soon. I want to look around.

Everything is beautiful, but I have a feeling something isn't right. The ground feels a little different. It was a strange sensation, as if the land was alive.

— Wait! Stop, what's happening? Why is the ground moving? I must get back to the ship!

Sinbad ran at full speed. But he was so deep in the forest, it was a long way back. Meanwhile, the other merchants also felt the ground moving.

— Why is the island moving? — Did you feel that too? — Hey, wake up! The island is moving! — Are you okay? — Yes, let's get back to the ship! — Run! This isn't an island! This is a sleeping whale! We woke it up with the fire! — No! Why is this whale sleeping on top of the water? — Save yourselves! — Run!

The Sleeping Whale

And that was it. The whale had slept for so long that a forest had grown on it. It was a gigantic creature, mistaken for an island by the sailors.

Everyone was so scared that they didn't even know who got on the ship and who was left behind. Sinbad was running as fast as he could, but then...

— Woah! The ground collapsed. What's happening?

The whale was diving into the water, taking the entire forest with it. Sinbad was caught in the whirlpool, fighting for his life.

— No! Wait! Aaaah!

Shipwreck and Survival

Sinbad thought it was all over for him. But fate had other plans for him. He managed to cling to a piece of wood.

— Oh! My people! The ship is gone! What do I do now?

I must not lose hope. This water will take me somewhere. Sinbad floated on the tree for days and nights, under the scorching sun and the cold stars.

Finally, he reached shore. He was so tired that he fell asleep immediately, exhausted from the effort and fright.

When he woke up, he was very hungry and thirsty. He looked around, hoping to find something to eat or drink.

— Ah! This place has nothing. If I want to survive, I must try to climb. There must be something up there?

Sinbad began to climb a hill, with his last remaining strength. When he reached the top, he saw an amazing sight.

— Wow! What is this place? Water! My God, when I was on the ship, I missed land. Now I'm here, I miss water! Ah! I'm so hungry!

Meeting the Locals

— What's that sound? Horses! So there must be people around too. You're a strong horse. Where is your rider?

A man appeared, surprised to see Sinbad.

— Hey! I've never seen you here. Who are you? — Oh! I'm glad to finally meet people. Don't worry, I'm not a thief or anything. I was hungry, so I came into the forest for food. I'm a sailor. I was on a floating island, which was actually a whale, which drowned me. — Then I... a whale. Okay. Maybe you hit your head too hard, friend. Let's get you some food first.

— I'm sure I hit my head, but it really was a whale. But yes, some food would be good.

Sinbad continued to tell his story.

— And then it pulled me down with it. I mean, imagine! All these years the whale was floating with a forest on its back. An entire forest. Then a handful of people and a fire forced it to go underwater. — I'm not surprised the whale was angry.

(Laughter)

— I tell you, my crew didn't miss me at all when they pulled anchor. I can't blame them. Everyone feared for their lives. My bad luck, I say? I was the only one who drifted out to sea. — Bad luck? What are you talking about? Your story is amazing! Do you know that we only come to this part of the island once a year to feed the king's horses? If you had been drifting tomorrow, we would have left. You would never have found a way to the inhabited part of the land without us. — The inhabited part? — Of course, where people live. Let's take you there. Our king will be happy to hear your story.

At the King's Court

The soldiers took Sinbad to the inhabited part of the island. It was a small kingdom with good people. Sinbad met the king and told him his story.

— Hmm. The sea is full of surprises and mysteries indeed. You are a brave man. I will ask my people to take great care of you. — Oh, Your Majesty, this is more than I could have wished for. This morning I thought I would die on this island. And here I am, standing before a generous king. Please, allow me to be of service to you. — So you want to earn your living here? I am impressed. Didn't you say you were a merchant? Well, then I have a perfect job for you. Why don't you help us keep records of all goods in transit at the port? — Oh, that would be great!

A New Life and Homesickness

Sinbad was honored to be of help. After all, they saved his life. A few weeks passed, and Sinbad, being Sinbad, grew bored with the job.

— Ah! How will I ever return to Baghdad? There's no way the king would lend me a ship for me to go back. And how will I return? As if a
