The Pied Piper of Hamelin
Once upon a time, there was a little town called Hamelin. This town was nestled by a river in Germany. It was a quiet and pleasant little town. However, not so long ago, more than 50 years back, it used to be dirty and neglected.
People would throw their rubbish in the streets, around their homes, and wherever they went. Not even the town's mayor was interested in this situation. And so, the town soon became full of rats.
The Rat Invasion
The people of Hamelin suffered from the diseases spread by the rats. Rats appeared everywhere in town. They often bit babies in their cradles. They climbed into food and ate the cheese right off the plates. They left dirt in shoes and hats. They even showed up in the living room, and their squeaks disturbed conversations.
The people ran to the mayor's office for help.
— We don't want any more rats! — We don't want any more rats!
The mayor heard the crowd's shouts and came out.
— What's happened?
