The Little Red Hen
Once upon a time, there was a farm with animals who had nothing left to eat. They were very hungry, so they decided to cook something.
The Discovery of the Grain of Wheat
The Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat and quickly ran to tell her friends. Maybe they would help her plant it.
— Who will help me plant this grain of wheat?
— Cow, will you help me plant the grain? — Not I, not I. It's too sunny to plant it.
— Piggy, will you help me plant the grain? — Not I, not I. It's too sunny to plant it.
— Dog, will you help me plant the grain? — Not I, not I. It's too sunny to plant it.
— Fine. Then I'll plant it myself.
Planting the Wheat
And so, the Little Red Hen planted the grain all by herself.
A few days passed. The sun shone brightly, then the rain came.
Weeding the Garden
The Little Red Hen decided to weed the wheat.
— Who will help me weed the wheat?
— Cow, will you help me weed the garden? — Not I, not I. It's too beautiful a day to work.
— Piggy, will you help me weed the garden? — Not I, not I. It's too beautiful a day to work.
— Dog, will you help me weed the garden? — Not I, not I. The weather is too beautiful to work.
— Fine. I'll manage by myself.
And so, the Little Red Hen weeded and tended the garden all by herself.
Weeks went by, and the sun ripened the wheat until it was ready for harvest. The wheat had grown tall and healthy.
Threshing the Wheat
The Little Red Hen asked her friends to help her thresh the wheat.
— Cow, will you help me thresh the wheat? — Not I, not I. Today I want to rest in the barn.
— Piggy, will you help me thresh the wheat? — Not I, not I. Today I want to splash in the mud.
— Dog, will you help me thresh the wheat? — Not I, not I. Today I want to stay in my kennel and find my bone.
— Fine. Then I'll manage by myself.
No one helped the Little Red Hen, so once again, she had to do all the work by herself. And so, she threshed the wheat.
After she finished, she asked her friends to help her grind the wheat to make flour.
— Who will help me grind the wheat to make flour?
— Cow, will you help me grind the wheat? — Not I, not I. It's too close to milking time.
— Piggy, will you help me grind the wheat? — Not I, not I. It's too close to dinner time.
— Dog, will you help me grind the wheat? — Not I, not I. It's too close to dinner time.
— Fine. Then I'll manage by myself.
And so, the Little Red Hen ground the wheat and made flour all by herself.
Baking the Bread
The Little Red Hen decided to bake the flour and make bread. She thought she'd give her friends one more chance to help her.
— Who wants to help me make bread?
— Cow, will you help me make bread from the flour? — Not I, not I. I don't know how to bake.
— Piggy, will you help me make bread? — Not I, not I. I don't know how to bake.
— Dog, will you help me make bread? — Not I, not I. I don't know how to bake.
— Fine. Then I'll manage by myself.
The Little Red Hen set about baking the bread all by herself.
The Reward of Work
When it was ready, she let it cool for a while. In the blink of an eye, it was time to slice the bread and eat it. She looked around, but saw no one.
— Hmm, I wonder who will help me eat this bread? — I will! — I will! — I will!
— Oh no, not you! I did all the work. I will enjoy the fruits of my labor. This bread.
The moral of the story is that hard work and perseverance bring rewards, and those who refuse to help should not expect to share in the benefits.
