The Lion and the Idiot

Once upon a time, on a Saturday afternoon, precisely at 5 o'clock, to be exact, Scott inherited his father's entire fortune.

Precisely at 7 o'clock, he organized a grand party, inviting all his friends and giving them expensive gifts.

At 9 o'clock, on the recommendation of one of his friends, Scott decided to buy a very expensive painting. And Scott hadn't even finished half of that when, by the end of the party, Scott had become the financial supporter of a kangaroo in Australia.

He had bought land on the moon, which he would never visit. And he announced an even bigger party for the next day.

— They love me and I love them.

They didn't love him. And Scott was about to find that out soon enough.

Scott's Downfall

In the following weeks, Scott bought land on Mars. He became a financial supporter for several kangaroos and threw party after party until he was broke.

So, broke. The people he thought were his friends slammed the door in his face, and now Scott had to sell his house to pay for the kangaroos' upkeep.

— My friends don't love me. I was a fool.

— You know, Scott, I usually don't agree with you, but I agree with this. You are a fool. A big fool. In fact, you are the biggest fool who has ever walked the face of the earth. In fact, if fools could fly, you'd be in the air all the time. In fact... — Yes, that's enough. You don't have to keep repeating it. — Alright, please close the door on your way out. — But Uncle, where am I to go? I have no home, I have no money. — Nephew, that's not my problem. You had money, in fact, more money than I have, but you didn't know how to value it. And if, after all you've done, I let you stay here, you'll never learn. Ah, that rhymed quite well. I'm a poet and I didn't even know it. Alright, now, goodbye!

The Encounter with the Beggar

With a broken heart, Scott left his uncle's house.

— Hey, Scott! Here's an apple. Enjoy it.

With a broken heart and an apple, Scott walked away from his uncle's house. He walked through the city, deep in thought, regretting that he had spent all his fortune on useless things.

— Oh! At least the kangaroos are happy. — Hey, young man, this is my spot. — Oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Beggar. I'll sit further away. — Hey, my name isn't Mr. Beggar. — Oh, sorry. What's your name? — The name is Bond, James Emanuel Degoza de Nonon Bond. — Wow! Can you really remember that whole name? — A perfect man practices, and I've been training since I was a child. Are you new here? — Yes.

Scott told him about the turn his life had taken in recent weeks.

— Hmm. I'd like to call you a fool, but that would be an insult to other foolish people. However, you're not the first I've heard of who lost their entire fortune in an instant. There are many. And believe it or not, it's the hand of luck.

The Search for Luck

— Luck? — Yes, luck. You see, from what you've told me, it seems your destiny was very kind to you, but you upset it because you didn't value its gifts. Now it has left you. — Oh! What am I to do now? — If I were you, I'd go look for it. Find it. Try to make amends with it, and you'll be rich again. — And why haven't you tried to find your luck then? — Who said I don't have luck? I eat three times a day. The whole city is my home, and passersby are kind to me. For me, that's enough. Besides, this conversation is also enough for me. Now, please, leave me in peace. — Oh, alright. Hmm, thank you.

Scott began to think about his luck and fell asleep without realizing it. He had a dream in which he saw that his luck was a human being just like him, perched on the top of a tall mountain, looking sad.

— Huh? This is my luck. It looked sad. I must find it.

And so, the next morning, Scott set off towards the purple-leafed tree on the mountain. He crossed rivers, traversed the city, and passed through the jungle, until he reached a stream, where he saw a lion sitting on a large rock.

— Oh, no! — Don't be afraid, man. Go on. — Uh, alright.

Scott continued on his way, a little unsure, when the lion called out to him again.

— Don
